Flodesk Review, Referral Code + Free Training

I’ve been using Flodesk since early 2020, just as the pandemic was beginning and we were all upgrading the online aspects of our businesses. Since then, I’ve grown my list into the thousands thanks to their simple landing pages, easy automation, and overall beautiful design.

Flodesk vs. Mailchimp

Before Flodesk, I was using Mailchimp. Even as a tech-savvy person, Mailchimp always felt clunky and confusing. Plus, my list was growing, and despite that, I’m still a small business trying to keep operating expenses down. With services like Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, Mailerlite, and the like, after you get to a certain amount of subscribers, you have to upgrade to a paid plan. The paid plans are typically tiered, and you have to pay more as you grow.

Flodesk doesn’t punish you for growing. You get unlimited emails, unlimited subscribers, and access to all features for one affordable price.

Landing Pages + Opt-In Forms

The other draw for me was Flodesk’s absolutely gorgeous landing pages and opt-in forms. They offer multiple pre-designed templates that you can customize with your own colors, fonts, and photos, plus it’s connected to the free stock photo site Unsplash so you don’t have to have 10 tabs open searching for the perfect image.

The form builder is an intuitive drag-and-drop style editor. If you’re familiar with Squarespace (even if you’re not!), you’ll catch on pretty easily.

Opt-in forms come in several styles, including full landing pages, pop-ups with or without images, and in-line, which you can see an example of below. I have used these in-line forms on both my Squarespace and Wordpress sites and they integrate easily.

Automations

One more major reason for switching to Flodesk from Mailchimp was the ability to create automations, which allow you to automate repeatable tasks/emails. For example, someone signs up for your list, and in exchange you deliver them a freebie. Maybe you even send out a nurture sequence of timed emails that go out every so often after you deliver that freebie. That happens with an automation.

Some email service providers limit the number of automations you’re allowed to have on a free or lower-cost plan, or they limit you to a single email.

Flodesk offers unlimited automations. There are no tiers — everyone gets access to the same features for one price. Because I can create beautiful opt-in forms, deliver my freebies automatically, and create a workflow for my nurture sequences that runs in the background, I have grown my list by 500% in 18 months!

Pros and Cons of Flodesk

PROS

  • Affordable (just $19/mo with code KRISTENC)

  • Unlimited access to all features, no pricing tiers

  • Beautiful templates for emails, landing pages, and opt-in forms

  • Integration with Unsplash to help you find attractive stock photos

  • Simple, intuitive form builder similar to Squarespace

  • Highly communicative customer support via email and Facebook group

  • High deliverability

CONS

  • Recently out of beta as of November 2, 2021 — it’s not 100% perfect, but their customer service is extremely helpful

  • Limited analytics — you get important metrics like open rate, click-through rate, and device info, but the analytics are not as in-depth as other services and don’t provide as detailed targeting. This is my one gripe with them, but I know it will improve as they grow!
